Have any of you had sore throat so bad that even swallowing your own saliva is bloody agony? Not only swallowing is a pain, but coughing and yawning also triggers the ache. If yes, then I know how it feels because that's what I'm going through right now. If no, then lucky you, bastards.
After surveying a few resources, whether it's reliable or not is not the concern, I've found out that smoking, viral infection or swollen glands may be the cause of the problem, among others. At first I thought it might've been swollen glands but I've had swollen glands before and it didn't hurt to swallow, just uncomfortable. That leaves smoking and viral infection. Well I went to the doctors and they gave me Erythromycin ES 400mg as antibiotics for the viral infection and instructed me to take it twice daily and to finish the course. Which I completed (finally) a couple of minutes ago...after enduring the pain of having to eat breakfast just so I can take the antibiotics. I had to somehow control my swallowing to reduce the pain, I'm pretty sure I looked like a cat choking on a fishbone. And if it isn't the viral infection that causes my sore throat, then that leaves smoking. Let's not talk about that.
I read somewhere that a sore throat lasts between 5-7 days. If it were to last longer than that, then I should see a doctor and run some tests. Sounds scary. So far mine has been 5 days. The third day I had it, I had a fever of 38.5C/101.3F during which unlike the extremely high temperature for a human, I actually felt so cold that my fingers were pale purple and numb. This sore throat has caused me so much misery that I don't think I can bear it any longer if it does not go away within the next 48 hours.
